The Story Behind SOULINATE
Of mountain meadows, honeybees, and the beauty of becoming who we truly are.
Written by Andrea Mathis

There is a little bee at the heart of SOULINATE.
She is more than a charming companion or a symbol of nature. She carries a story that began long before SOULINATE had a name. It is a story about my childhood in the Swiss mountains, my parents, the fascinating world of bees, and a lifelong love of beauty, discovery and the human spirit.
And it is the story of how three words came together to express something deeply meaningful to me.
Where it all began
I grew up on a beautiful mountain farm in the heart of Switzerland, surrounded by alpine meadows, wildflowers, forests and breathtaking natural landscapes. Nature was an essential part of my childhood. I remember the richness of the mountain flowers, the changing colours of the seasons and the extraordinary beauty that emerged so effortlessly from the land.
My parents kept bees and were passionate beekeepers. My mother studied beekeeping and often shared her knowledge of these remarkable little creatures with us.

Through her, I began to appreciate how much life and beauty depend on something as small and seemingly delicate as a bee. I was fascinated by the way bees moved from flower to flower, connecting different parts of nature and contributing to something much greater than themselves.
Only later did I begin to recognise how closely their world reflected my own values.
The beauty of pollination
Bees play an extraordinary role in nature. As they visit flowers to collect nectar and pollen, they transfer pollen between blossoms, enabling many plants to reproduce and produce fruits and seeds. Their work supports biodiversity, the regeneration of flowering plants and the food sources on which countless living beings depend.
Around 75% of the world's leading food crop types benefit, at least partly, from animal pollination. These include many fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. Crops that depend to some degree on animal pollination account for approximately 35% of global crop production by volume. Bees are among these important pollinators, alongside butterflies, birds and other animals.
What fascinates me is the beauty of this relationship. A bee does not create the flower. She does not decide its colour, shape or fragrance. Yet through pollination, she contributes to the continuation and flourishing of life.
The potential is already within the flower. The bee helps make its unfolding possible.
This is a beautiful metaphor for what I hope to bring into people's lives through SOULINATE. I do not believe that people need to become someone else to live a beautiful and meaningful life. I believe that much of what we seek is already within us, sometimes waiting to be recognised, nurtured and expressed.
My role is to help create the conditions in which that authentic essence can flourish — and become visible in the way we live, the choices we make and the environments we create around ourselves.
A dance that shows the way
There is another remarkable quality of honeybees that has always fascinated me. They dance.
Through a movement known as the waggle dance, honeybees can communicate the direction and distance of valuable food sources to other bees in their colony. Imagine that: a little creature discovers something precious in the world and returns to show others where to find it.
I love that image. To me, it represents discovery, movement, connection and the joy of sharing what we find.
I have always loved travelling, exploring new countries, discovering beautiful places and experiencing different cultures. Every journey expands my perspective. I return with memories, inspiration, new ideas and sometimes a meaningful object that finds a place in my home. In this way, my home has become a collection of experiences, discoveries and treasured moments from different chapters of my life. My own little hive.
And just like the dancing bee, I love sharing what I discover — whether it is a beautiful place, a different perspective or a new possibility that someone may not yet have considered. Sometimes, all we need is someone to help us see a direction we could not see before.
Soul. Pollinate. Illuminate.
This is how the name SOULINATE came to life. A playful fusion of three words that together express my philosophy.
Soul
The essence of who we truly are.
Our inner world. Our values, dreams, feelings, individuality and the qualities that make us uniquely ourselves.
Pollinate
Helping our potential flourish.
Bringing inspiration, beauty and fresh perspectives into our lives. Creating an environment in which our authentic nature can grow and express itself.
Illuminate
Bringing light to new possibilities.
Helping us recognise what matters, discover new perspectives and find our own way forward with greater clarity.
Together, these three ideas became SOULINATE.
For me, it means bringing soul into the world around us, nurturing what is already beautiful within us, and illuminating the path towards a life that feels truly our own.
The art of creating my own hive
There is one more quality of the bee that resonates with me: her relationship with her hive. For me, a hive represents belonging, contribution, care and the creation of a place where life can thrive.
I see my own home in a similar way. It is not simply a collection of furniture or beautiful objects. It is a living expression of my experiences, values, memories and aspirations. A place where I can restore my energy, feel connected to myself and welcome others.
I also believe in being the queen of my own life — not in the sense of controlling everything around me, but in taking responsibility for my choices, my actions and the way I respond to life's experiences.
Some seasons are joyful and abundant. Others challenge us, teach us humility and ask us to grow. I am continually learning to move through both with dignity, respect, gratitude and an open heart. And to remember that beauty can exist even in the more difficult chapters of life.
Beauty as a way of being
Beauty has always been one of my deepest values. Not beauty as perfection, status or something we need to possess. But beauty as something we can recognise, cultivate and experience.
In nature. In art. In a thoughtfully created home. In an unexpected encounter. In a kind gesture. In the courage to be ourselves.
I believe that the more authentically we live, the more we begin to recognise beauty — both within ourselves and in the world around us. And when our outer world begins to reflect our inner truth, something beautiful happens.
We feel more at home. Not only in the places where we live, but within ourselves.
A little bee with a meaningful purpose
SOULINATE brings together so many things that have shaped my life: the mountains of my childhood, the wisdom of my parents, my fascination with bees, my love of travel and discovery, and my belief in the beauty of our authentic nature.
The little SOULINATE bee reminds me of all of them. She is curious, gentle, adventurous and always discovering something beautiful. She brings a little inspiration wherever she goes. And she reminds me of the purpose behind SOULINATE:
To help people bring their inner beauty into the world — and create a life that truly reflects who they are.
Because, just like a flower, we each have our own nature, our own rhythm and our own way of blossoming. And sometimes, a little inspiration and a little light can help us flourish.
Every beautiful transformation begins with a little inspiration.
If you feel ready to bring more of your authentic self into your life and surroundings, I would love to explore the possibilities with you.
